My son is 8 years old and we just got back from our first mom-son solo vacation to Brazil. Nothing fancy, just seven days with family. I thought it was going to be tough traveling alone with him and not having a minute to myself for a week. It was the exact opposite of tough. It was sunny, we went to the beach every day, and just slowed down. For a week, I just let things be simple. I didn't worry about bedtime as much, let him fall asleep on car rides home, have that second ice cream. I can't tell you how good that felt. I've had so many friends comment on how happy we looked in pictures.

Maybe this is just vacation brain (sunshine does help!) or maybe I gave myself permission to be present and to let things be easy. I wasn't escaping into my phone. I was there, in the water, jumping through waves and laughing. Whatever it was, I'm bringing some of that mindset back home with me and letting things be simple. Spring feels like a good time for that. It's a new season where the smallest little flower can bring so much joy. Even cleaning feels good in March! I hope this new month and a little bit more daylight brings great things for you all.
